Quick + Dirty Design Tips: After Effects

After Effects is one of my favorite prototyping tools. I use it to animate web and mobile interactions, or to demonstrate physical interactions by augmenting UI and sound over video footage.

AE is super powerful, but has a deep and twisty interface with lots of corners to navigate. The timeline is one of its most daunting aspects. Things can escalate quickly, and before you know it, your project is a labyrinth of layers, expressions, effects, and comps. Here are a few tips to help you find your way.
