Technology Lead

In a nutshell:

IDEO Cambridge is seeking a Tech Lead to work directly with the location and the global technology team to co-design systems, resources, and guidelines that strengthen the studio’s technology experiences.

Why is this role important for IDEO's work?

The Tech Lead is part of a broader support and technology community that focuses on designing and strengthening IDEO resources that make our employee and visitor experience extraordinary. This person will co-create and build technology systems to help people in the Cambridge studio both sound and look great in their communication and collaboration (with each other and the outside world). We want this expert to be looking one step ahead, proactively finding ways to enhance daily experiences. In addition to advising the Cambridge leadership team on the direction of its technology strategy, the Tech Lead will spearhead efforts to elevate the community’s overall digital fluency and train studio members on independently implementing user solutions.

Once you're here, you'll:

  • Provide consultation on user solutions that studio members could implement for experience issues with hardware, software, networking and other technologies.
  • Design user-friendly systems and tools for hospitality-focused technology experiences that the team could implement for visiting clients, guests and colleagues.
  • Co-create training and learning opportunities in the studio to enhance the community’s comfort level and proficiency in using available technology tools, platforms, and systems.
  • Create technology onboarding and offboarding processes for employees in collaboration with Talent and Experience teams.
  • Establish guidelines and recommendations for best practices and resources as people join and leave IDEO.
  • Collaborate with the global technology team on enterprise-wide initiatives and cross-location projects.

What does IDEO offer you?

  • A chance to work with a team, yet be your own leader. This isn't a “Do and Don't” work environment... but one which still requires a crisp response to impromptu requests.
  • Assess new technology opportunities and lead decisions around what to do next.
  • Prototype with the latest and greatest technology, in service of the needs of the technology team and the Cambridge studio across functions.
  • Partner with the Experience team on location technology services and infrastructure needs.
  • Be a part of a company that is ultimately trying to make a positive change in a variety of industries in the world.

Relevant experience and mindset:

  • 4-6 years of enterprise experience preferably in a mostly Mac OS X computing environment (experience working in creative organizations and familiarity with code and coders is a plus)
  • Working knowledge of enterprise services, wireless networks, and video conference platforms
  • Experience with Cloud Based Applications and Active Directory Administration
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to troubleshoot in a complex technical environment
  • Willingness and ability to work non-standard work hours, weekends, and evenings is a plus.
  • High comfort level in working within a self-directed culture and navigating ambiguity
  • Excellent project and time management skills, ability to manage expectations in a deadline-driven environment and balance strategic projects with day-to-day accountabilities
  • Strong proficiency in verbal and written communication
  • Ability and interest in thinking strategically to elevate the bar for how we envision technology
  • Ability to clearly communicate projects and initiatives of the Technology Team to the Design Community
