Marketing Specialist

In a nutshell:

IDEO New York is looking for an experienced, well-rounded Marketing Specialist with strong strategic capability, excellent writing skills, journalistic instincts (you know how to sniff out and shape a story), and an undeniable passion for execution across content and events.

Working with direction and guidance from the New York Marketing and Media Relations Lead, this role collaborates closely with business development, project leaders, and designers to support and implement marketing programs that drive IDEO New York’s business objectives. The role’s primary responsibility is the end-to-end production of content and events that promote IDEO New York to new and existing audiences.

Primary activities for this role include proactively spotting compelling story ingredients within the location’s work and activities; collaborating with stakeholders to filter story ideas against strategy and match them to appropriate channels and formats; working with designers, writers, and editors to develop and craft ideas into market-facing content; and driving content and events through to final production, publication, or execution.

Why is this role important for IDEO’s work?

IDEO New York embodies the creativity, rigor, and moxie of the greatest city in the world. We join forces with visionary leaders and brave teams to harness that energy and drive positive, measurable impact through design.

We help clients create growth by imagining and building the products, services, and experiences that shape and move markets. And we help clients drive change by mobilizing people through a shared purpose and designing organizational cultures, physical environments, and digital tools that activate that purpose.

As a Marketing Specialist, you will play a primary role in communicating IDEO’s value to our audiences throughout the city, region, and the world.

Once here you will:

Implement content strategy for the New York location:

  • Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to identify and craft content that illustrates how New York is driving impact with clients in powerful, differentiating ways.
  • Drive development of content through to final execution as public-facing case studies, blog posts, social media posts, presentations, events, and other original formats.
  • Contribute to quarterly content reviews to assess impact of recently launched content, surface, filter, and prioritize new content; and populate the location editorial calendar.

Drive marketing activity across a variety of channels to connect New York’s work and key voices to existing and prospective client audiences. Channels include newsletters, speaking engagements, conference attendance, small-scale, events, and social media.

Manage marketing systems and processes including production pipeline for case studies, blog posts, and other written content; newsletter and mailing list management; project story capture; and impact tracking and monitoring. Create tools and systems to streamline future workflows.

Champion marketing-mindedness within the New York location and champion New York’s value within the global marketing community and IDEO at large.

Relevant experience and mindset:

  • You’re a self-directed, flexible team player who embodies great interpersonal skills, learns quickly, relishes the opportunity to make others successful, and are able to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once.
  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years related work experience at a B2B company, agency, or consultancy or as part of an in-house marketing or comms team.
  • BA/BS degree preferred.
  • You have strong marketing communications experience and have contributed to the development and implementation of multi-channel marketing communications campaigns spanning editorial content, speaking engagements, direct marketing, events, social media, and more.
  • You have excellent communications skills and are at your best when working across organizations with partners in other functions.
  • You’re proactive and organized, with excellent project management skills, but very (very) comfortable with ambiguity and can adapt quickly when plans change.
  • You have experience working in digital media, photoshop, keynote, web-based tools, content management systems, CRMs, and analytics.
