Design Research Intern

You must already have the legal right to work in the EU (we can accept international students with tier four visas, but unfortunately, in this case, IDEO will not be making separate sponsorship support). In order to be considered for an internship in Munich, you must be enrolled and studying at a University.

In a nutshell:

IDEO Munich is in search of a talented Design Research Intern who is inspired by people and gathers great insights through qualitative and quantitative research. As a Design Research Intern at IDEO you work collaboratively, creatively, and flexibly within interdisciplinary teams and use gathered insights to help and inspire design teams to create products and services.

Why is this role important for IDEO’s work?

Great design is born out of great research. Being a Design Researcher at IDEO means you do a lot of listening, observing, brainstorming and iterating with a group of people with backgrounds very different than yours. This diversity of thought and approach results in breakthrough ideas that lead to innovative outcomes and bring to life the voice of the people they’re designed for.

Once here you will:

  • Design for users: IDEO’s human-centered design process involves careful observations of and conversations with people
  • Help set up the research and inspiration phase (recruit interviewees, plan observations, write discussion guides etc.) and take part in fieldwork and synthesis sessions
  • Gather research data from observations, conversations and other creative perspectives
  • Interpret, define and communicate insights and opportunities and translate design opportunities it into powerful, concise design solutions
  • Prototype in 3 dimensions or digitally and not be afraid of getting your hands dirty in doing so
  • Collaborate with a diverse collective of talented people from multidisciplinary backgrounds to create holistic solutions to complex challenges

What does IDEO offer you?

IDEO is a place unlike any other. It’s a place where you can solve diverse, complex challenges for our clients or the organisation, alongside thoughtful, intelligent individuals who lead with curiosity, empathy, and optimism. Sure we work hard, but we also intentionally craft moments that allow our community to pause, create, and connect. We encourage our community to bring their whole selves to work, respect the need for work-life balance, and allow for autonomy in the design process and your career.

As a Design Intern in Munich, we provide the opportunity for you to enjoy our collaborative cross-disciplinary work style at IDEO to develop a holistic design for our clients and find a place to grow as a designer.
