Sr. Learning Experience Designer, IDEO U

IDEO U is on a mission to teach and inspire individuals and teams around the globe to tackle their hardest challenges creatively and transform how they think and collaborate. We specialize in future-forward on-line learning – bringing together the best of asynchronous digital content along with human interaction such as coaching, community dialogue, or live facilitated moments.

As a Learning Experience Designer (LXD) you will be responsible for creating interactive content and experiences to help individuals and teams collaborate, navigate uncertainty, and solve problems creatively.

We have several open LXD roles. You will join our collaborative team of designers to develop courses for individual learners, design and experiment with alternative learning formats, and/or launch a new experience for team-based learning.

What you will do

Lead the end-to-end collaborative process of bringing a digital learning experience to life

You will lead research to identify topics and partners, synthesize and define content, write and design learning experiences, and develop it for launch. You will be responsible for leading the process from surfacing needs, to concept, to launch and into iteration and assessment

Design and develop rich, interactive virtual learning experiences

You will create collaborative and dynamic learning experiences leveraging written content, video, visuals, frameworks, digital interactions, assignments/activities, and live coaching or community moments.

We might be a good fit for you if:

  • You have 5+ years experience in writing, designing, and crafting content for digital learning experiences.
  • You have led the end-to-end process of developing a digital educational experience.
  • You are a strategic communicator, capable of utilizing a variety of mediums – both visual and verbal.
  • You are a skilled writer in a range of formats such as short-form stories, video scripts, case studies, text-based articles, and/or punchy 1-liners. You can flex tone and style to speak to different audiences.
  • You are comfortable working with a variety of digital tools such as Mural, figma, CMS or LMS’s such as NovoEd, iMovie, or Hubspot. Bonus if you’re also skilled at designing digital interactions in online learning environments.
  • You are a detail-oriented designer who can self-initiate and see their work through to completion.
  • You are comfortable in start-up work environments, willing to flex into different areas of the business and learn new skills when necessary such as creating marketing assets or running experiments.
  • You thrive in collaboration. You have experience working closely with other designers to develop content, product teams or interaction designers to bring it to life in a digital environment, and/or marketing teams to strategically position it. Bonus if you are skilled at managing stakeholders and building relationship networks.
  • You have expertise in designing learning content for the professional sector (e.g. business, strategy) and/or soft-skill topics (e.g. creativity, storytelling, people leadership).

Bonus if you specialize in any of the following:

In addition to the skills above, we are interested in people who have expertise in one or more of the following areas of specialization. Please share in your application if you have experience in any of these areas.

Expertise in developing tools and guides for coaches or mentors

Coaches play a critical role in our team-based experiences. You have experience in creating materials and experiences for the coaching network, including onboarding, coaching guides and support moments.

Designing & facilitating live community interactions

You have teaching experience and are skilled at facilitating community moments. In particular, you are skilled at designing online templates/toolkits or activities that enable learners to collaborate and construct their learning through a facilitated experience.

Experience developing content or teaching for diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I)

Our global learning audience spans a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences. You have experience in crafting learning content and experiences that are inclusive and resonate with diverse audience needs, especially for under-represented communities.

Running experiments to test and learn

You have ‘launch and learn’ expertise, such as setting up experiments, developing rapid prototypes, and testing offers against strategic goals or learner needs to iterate the learning experience.
