Lead Visual Interaction Designer

Please apply by Friday, October 29th, 2021 at 5:00 pm GST.

Location Note: This role will be based out of our Munich studio. However, due to COVID-19 the majority of our workforce is remote until January 2022.

The Role

IDEO is in search of a Lead Visual Interaction Designer who will create and bring to life beautiful interactions and experiences through design, prototyping, and storytelling. As a designer with expert knowledge in both visual and experience design, you’ll practice human-centered design to solve complex problems, & create breakthrough experiences, services, and products.

At IDEO we create impact through design. Our goal is to create work that is desirable, feasible, and viable. Interaction Designers live at the intersection of all three lenses. This role will create opportunities to stay with your work and support its execution in the real world.

What it Takes

A Designer who brings professional working experience, with knowledge in both visual communications design and user experience design methodology. You can zoom in and out, designing at the detail and the system levels. You are eager to practice empathy-led design, grounding in & focusing on the needs and desires of target users in order to make design decisions.

You’ve worked across a variety of digital platforms, and possess a strength in applying the principles of visual design (color, type, grid, hierarchy) to screen-based interfaces. You bring experience building and using prototypes to test assumptions and collect feedback on a design direction. You’re skilled in a range of interactive tools for visual and digital design, as well as prototyping, including new-to-market, interactive, and motion-based tools, such as Figma, Principle, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.

You have strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills, and can communicate the value of design, and the thinking behind your work. You tell compelling stories to translate your thinking to designers and collaborators who don’t share fluency in your craft. You can effectively adapt your design and intent to meet the needs of digital delivery partners, communicate and document your work and translate brands into compelling digital experiences. It’s preferred if you have experience with delivering digital products and experiences.

You have experience in leading multi-disciplinary design teams through a design process. You understand the different stages of design such as research, prototyping, testing and refinement and know when to apply different methodologies to move the team forward. You have experience closely collaborating with stakeholders, be it in a consultancy context or in-house, to deliver and lead the team to impact. You thrive in oscillating between leading and doing design.

You are highly collaborative, and maintain a mindset of curiosity and openness when working across teams and functions. You practice curiosity by asking questions, learning through secondary research, talking to experts or others not like yourself, requesting feedback from others, and seeking out other perspectives. You thrive on complex challenges, and feel comfortable originating content autonomously and acting self-directed.

In This Role, You Will

In this role, you'll use your education and work experience in visual communications design and user experience design methodology to:

  • Work on projects that identify and solve problems across a variety of industries
  • Lead highly collaborative multidisciplinary teams alongside other designers with diverse perspectives and expertise, through research phase to final deliverables/stewardship in a build phase.
  • Work on a wide range of digital platforms such as mobile, web, TV, and physical/connected devices
  • Design transformative interactive experiences through front-end user interfaces, narrative storytelling, systems thinking, prototyping, even creating production-ready assets
  • Serve as an advocate of exceptional design, visually and experientially
  • Spot opportunities for a breakthrough, seek analogous sources of inspiration and bring inspiration back to our design teams and client partners
  • Work across all parts of the design process: user research, concept development, prototyping, strategy design, UX + UI, collaborating with development teams, and design stewardship across platforms.
