Performance Marketing Specialist, IDEO U (Contract)

IDEO U is building an online learning platform that helps people around the globe learn to unlock their creative potential and build their problem-solving skills. There is no shortage of challenges to tackle in the world, and we need more creative leaders who understand diverse needs, can generate radical solutions, and confidently experiment their way forward. We are seeking a Performance Marketing Specialist to help continue growing the IDEO U community of creative leaders and, using paid advertising platforms like Google Adwords and Facebook, make more learners aware, interested, and enrolled in IDEO U courses. You’ll help us optimize our existing paid advertising efforts, while identifying new opportunities for growth.

IDEO’s mission is to have a disproportionate impact in the world through design. IDEO U is in its third year of existence empowering individuals to tackle their creative challenges. This role will help continue and accelerate the growth of the IDEO U platform and enable us to scale impact we have. This position will help make that growth a reality.

As part of the IDEO U team, you will work to help improve digital paid advertising efforts to drive interest and enrollment growth for IDEO U courses. You have proven experience driving efficient growth via Facebook and Google Adwords along with other platforms as well. You thrive in building, maintaining and optimizing digital advertising campaigns and have a methodological approach that allows for experimentation while being mindful of the cost per acquisition. You’ll bring an “always be testing” mindset to ensure that we are going forward with the most compelling ads to the right audience.

Once here you will:

  • Leverage your experience in paid digital advertising, SEM, specifically e-commerce marketing to acquire more enrolled IDEO U learners at a lower cost per enrollment.
  • Exhibit a natural, human-centered style to advertising that differentiates IDEO U and provides value to the user. You’ll make use of your communications skills and ability to quickly communicate the right message, paired with the right imagery, to maximize impact.
  • Be a habitual experimenter monitoring funnel metrics and using data to understand what is or isn't working and why and then making adjustments as needed.
  • Work with the Growth Marketing Lead to systematically plan, execute, monitor, and improve.
  • Collaborate with others on the IDEO U marketing and broader IDEO U teams to incorporate their perspective.
  • Be a representative and steward of the IDEO global brand and sub-brands, being mindful of the entire IDEO ecosystem (not just IDEO U).

Relevant experience:

  • Facebook Ads and Google Adwords - demonstrated success in improving account performance on both platforms.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Excel.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Google Analytics.
  • Strong command of the trends and new features and functionality for Facebook advertising.
  • Demonstrated insights from data, working quantitative methods to answer questions and find opportunities to optimize marketing activities and help to grow the business.
  • Demonstrated an eye for good design and experience creating ads quickly.


  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Experience in a growth marketing role at a fast-paced company, agency experience a plus.
  • 3+ years digital marketing experience.
  • You have a self-starter mentality, a strong sense of ownership, and an insatiable appetite for learning.
  • You have a team-oriented mindset and the ability to work and with a wide range of individuals.
  • You have a passion for online education and digital products experiences.
  • Nice to have:
    • Experience with ad management platforms like Nanigan’s, AdEspresso, Kenshoo, Marin Software, or AdStage.
    • Demonstrated success with other ad platforms (LinkedIn, Bing, Twitter Ads, etc)
    • Experience with both B2B and B2C.
    • More than just analyzing, we seek someone who can interpret, synthesize and draw insights from experiments inform growth.

Please limit submission to a 1-page summary maximum providing data specifics (eg. size, platform, #users, etc) and quantitative results (e.g. improved revenue by 20%, saved $400K, etc.).

  • 6 months
  • Full-time: 40 hours per week; with the opportunity to extend further
