Architectural Design Strategist

In a nutshell:

IDEO is partnering with one of our clients in search of an Architectural Design Strategist. This is a full-time opportunity located in Minneapolis, MN. This individual will lead the spatial design strategy for them and lead the rethinking and experiences of space through the lens of the company’s brand and growth strategy.

Why is this role important?

The Architectural Design Strategist will make the biggest impact by designing and creating spaces from a Human Centered point of view and envision the system and space in which tools, spaces, and people will interact with through this lens. This skillset is critical to the client’s interdisciplinary teams and will be counted to provide human centered thinking and in helping to drive their content and process.

Once here you will:

  • Work with designers and colleagues of different backgrounds to create holistic, branded experiences that integrate both physical and digital environments.
  • Lead the spatial design strategy across all phases of a project.
    • Conceptual design, space planning, presentations, and documentation.
    • Develop space planning concepts to support client programmatic needs
    • Facilitate client and team review and revision of design as necessary
    • Produce documentation to communicate design intent to client teams and selected Architect of Record
    • Support the selection and onboarding of the Architect of Record and manage communication in service of stewarding design through implementation.
    • Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives
  • You’ll champion the impact of human centered design on everyday life.

  • You are able to distinguish between “good” and “great” design.

Relevant experience

  • 5-8 years of experience in applicable areas of space design such as retail, hospitality, exhibit, workplace design, and urban design.
  • Completed an undergraduate or graduate degrees in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Exhibit Design.  
  • Fluency with design, documentation, and communication tools required to meet project objectives—Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, SketchUp, Rhino and other 3D sketch software, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Extensive experience in graphic presentations.
  • Excellent storytelling and narrative skills
  • Outstanding communication, presentation and design team collaboration skills
  • Ability to create and guide design strategies and design planning for spatial projects
  • Demonstrate a human-centered approach to design solutions
  • Experience engaging in client relationships and client management.
