Community Manager, OpenIDEO

In a nutshell:

OpenIDEO is in search of a Community Manager to support our open innovation Challenges, online communities, and in-person events. As the team members closest to our participants, our Community Managers work to support the diverse innovators and organizations we engage. Community managers are also responsible for helping evaluate Challenge ideas, developing presentations for client workshops and synthesizing insights from the innovation process. This role requires tremendous communication skills, an ability to think strategically, and a passion for fostering community and supporting social innovation.

Why this role is important for OpenIDEO:

Community Managers at OpenIDEO have a unique vantage point in a fast-paced open innovation journey, designing the conditions for inclusive collaboration in both online and offline spaces. Community Managers act as translators, cross-pollinators, activators, and community champions across the OpenIDEO community. This is a great role for someone who is deeply curious, can get lost reading for hours, whose favorite tool is the written word, and thrives in ambiguous, dynamic, fast-paced work environments.

Once here, you will:

  • Guide community members through the design thinking and innovation journey by posting comments on their contributions, connecting different community members and encouraging collaboration, helping with technical wayfinding in the Challenge process, and generating Challenge resources (webinars, toolkits, etc.)
  • Surface compelling contributions and standout collaborations to support storytelling to sponsors, partners, and the broader OpenIDEO community
  • Build scalable systems to manage community members with high potential for community leadership roles in both online and offline engagements
  • Collaborate with the team to design, produce and host both in-person and digital events
  • Dive into multiple Challenge topics with agility, while building enthusiasm and momentum for these Challenge topics within our broader community
  • Identify trends, opportunity areas for design, and synthesize both qualitative and quantitative insights into client-facing reports and presentations

It’s a place that offers you the opportunity to deepen your design thinking and community management skill sets while addressing some of the world’s most urgent problems. Depending on programmatic goals, this role may sometimes include travel domestically and internationally to connect with challenge partners and participants.
