Communication Design Intern (Summer 2019)

* Please note that this role is for internships in our New York and Cambridge studios

Communication Design Intern

In a nutshell:

IDEO is in search of Communication Design Interns who can collaborate with teams to bring our voices, stories, and concepts to life. We’re seeking candidates with strong foundations in graphic design and experience establishing and applying design principles to brands, user interactions, digital interfaces and products, and motion design.

Why is this role important for IDEO's work?

In this role, you’ll work in multidisciplinary teams to tackle all aspects of the design process, from user research to physical prototyping, and communicate the overall project story to the client team. IDEO’s human-centered design process involves careful observations of people, gathering insights from those observations and other creative perspectives, exploring and defining design opportunities, helping to define strategy, creating tangible design expressions and communicating the essence of these ideas.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects involving data, experience, interaction, digital product, and service design. Your contributions may take on a variety of forms including brand, brand expression, storytelling, information, motion, packaging, interface, wayfinding, and environmental design.

Being a Communication Design Intern at IDEO means bringing your talent and perspective to the table when brainstorming and iterating with a group of people with different backgrounds such as industrial designers, mechanical engineers and interaction designers. This diversity of thought and approach results in ideas leading to innovative outcomes.

What does IDEO offer you?

IDEO is a place where you can solve diverse, complex challenges for clients and organizations, alongside thoughtful, intelligent individuals who lead with curiosity, empathy, and optimism. We work hard, but we also intentionally craft moments allowing our community to pause, create, and connect. We encourage our community to bring their whole selves to work, respect the need for work-life balance, and allow for autonomy in the design process and your career.
