Sales Associate, IDEO Products Team

The IDEO Products team is a core group of designers, engineers, entrepreneurs and corporate innovators focused on building digital tools that help leaders and organizations compete in an uncertain future. Derived from IDEO’s 40-year history pioneering innovation, our digital tools act as the backbone for bringing creativity, collaboration and innovation to scale.

We are in search of a Sales Associate to join our IDEO Products team in San Francisco, CA. This person will help lead Sales efforts across the entire IDEO Products portfolio. The role is both strategic and operational so will require equal parts thought-leadership and tactical capabilities. You’ll help to identify target customer segments, craft and sell compelling offerings to prospective clients and work with leadership to scale the growth and logistics of the business.

The IDEO Products team, and suite of IDEO Products, is closely tied to our mission as a company.  We have always been focused on making positive impact through design, and a few years back we asked ourselves how we could scale our impact.  Which led to a new mission statement: to create disproportionate positive impact through design.  From there came the idea of IDEO as a platform for innovation and creativity.  And we introduced new ways to interact with individuals, teams and organizations outside of the traditional consulting model.  Some of those platforms include: IDEO CoLab, IDEO U, The Teacher's Guild, and OpenIDEO.

The IDEO Products team is currently focused on the following platforms, and is looking for a Sales Associate to join us to represent these offerings:

  • Creative Difference, a tool to assess guide and track and organization's ability to adapt and innovate
  • OI Engine, an online collaborative innovation tool for teams to participate in creative problem solving
  • Shape, a platform for small teams and large organizations alike to collaborate on new ideas, share knowledge, and test prototypes with users.  (This is brand new, website coming soon!)

Once here you will:

  • Sales: Support and grow the sales pipeline from lead generation through to contract signing. Help to define the sales funnel best practices, identify key prospects, qualify new leads, host pitch meetings/calls and close deals. Meet (or beat) sales targets assigned to you.
  • Sales Operations: Become a power-user of our internal sales processes and tools. Contribute to shaping our new business operations systems and be committed to finding more efficient ways of working. Regularly provide suggestions for how to optimize the sales funnel.
  • Sales Enablement: Partner with teammates to craft pitch materials, write case studies, gather testimonials and support other sales marketing needs. Familiarity with Keynote a plus.
  • Insight & Experimentation: Gather frontline insights from our customers on our positioning and product features; champion the internal feedback loop in order to inspire and inform improvements to our product roadmaps.
  • Consulting Integration: Be an expert on IDEO’s Design for Change consulting frameworks and philosophies. Craft and shape Sales stories that promote these characteristics with clients, partners, and colleagues.
  • Build Relationships: Be comfortable reaching out to cross-functional team members as well as introducing yourself to strangers. Represent Products with professionalism, while offering high-quality information and follow-through along the way.

Relevant Experience and Mindset:

You’re a self-directed, flexible team player who embodies great interpersonal skills, learns quickly, and relishes the opportunity to help grow an early-stage business within a larger organization.

Your background offers at least 5 years of experience in areas such as sales, sales & operations and/or business development. You have sold SaaS or other digital products within the B2B landscape. You’re willing to travel for client meetings up to 25%.

You have an innate sales hunger but simultaneously keep our client needs at the heart of what we do. You’re accustomed to a fast pace team dynamic with sharp ability to prioritize and follow-through. You bring positivity and excitement to making an impact and producing high quality work.

Additional experience might include:

  • Managing and prioritizing a pipeline of opportunities against deadlines and sales goals
  • Knowledgeable about and familiar with sales tools & processes; comfort with CRM tools (e.g. Salesforce, ProsperWorks or similar)
  • Practice in doing research in the form of customer interviews and/or focus group discussions
  • Comfort serving both internal + external clients; confident in being visible and central to forging high profile relationships
