Role summary:

As the senior marketing leader in the location, you will work closely with location leaders to set and oversee marketing strategy for IDEO in China, cultivate the thought leadership that distinguishes our people and their work, and be a resource to project teams seeking counsel on marketing communications and strategy. You will also  act as a hub and internal ambassador for IDEO on all marketing matters related to China. 

Once you are here you will:

Increasing influence

  • Nurture and increase IDEO’s influence by setting IDEO’s marketing strategy and plan in China in collaboration with location leadership and business development effort
  • Help location leaders to set priorities that advance the marketing agenda
  • Allocate resources, assess impact, and have primary accountability for driving marketing efforts
  • Work with location leaders and global marketing colleagues to evolve IDEO’s brand and offer locally where needed
  • Work closely with marketing colleagues in other parts of the world to stay connected to other locations and to leverage news and stories where appropriate to generate relevant opportunities
  • Create and shape, manage and field marketing and media opportunities, steward IDEO’s brand while navigating these opportunities
  • Identify issues, spot gaps and pitfalls, recommend options and implement on chosen course of action
  • Drive and develop, in collaboration with internal and external resources IDEO’s online presence in China

Articulation of who we are and what we do:

  • Work internally with relevant colleagues on cultivating thought leadership, shaping  and coaching on messaging and presentation
  • Help shape and express stories of our work, and curate a portfolio of stories that represent the range of our work, people, capabilities and impact

Relationship building:

  • Nurture productive relationships with the media
  • Initiate and lead alliances with relevant industry groups, key opinion formers, key forums and other stakeholder groups
  • Foster relationship with relevant local freelancers, partners and agencies to extend our marketing capacity and capabilities

Developing relevant systems:

  • Maintain a database of media contacts
  • Produce, manage, and develop a system and a suite of online and print marketing tools and materials where needed

Working on client projects and business development effort

  • Work either as a team member of or an advisor to client project teams where marketing and communication expertise is needed
  • Contribute to business development effort where marketing and communication skills are called for

Relevant experience: 

We are looking for someone who has at least 15 years’ experience in a marketing or brand communication consulting or in-house role. He/she will need to:

  • Have a sophisticated understanding and a proven track record of how to use brand, marketing and communication as tools to make new markets, create and sustain relevant social and in-person networks
  • Be knowledgeable of China’s media and social media landscape and development
  • Be fully fluent in Chinese and English and writes well
  • Have mature interpersonal skills
  • Be an articulate, accurate, and timely communicator
  • Have the ability to build and sustain momentum, and keep an eye on the big picture while managing the details
  • Have a passion for brand, marketing, communications and design
  • Have experience working in a creative environment and international working culture
