About
Beto Lopez is the Global Lead of IDEO’s Systems Design discipline. A Senior Product Designer based in Palo Alto, Beto realizes new-to-the-world innovations within established, complex systems by applying IDEO’s broad industry and technology experience. As a complement to design thinking which helps understand and envision what people need, Beto applies systems thinking to help frame, change and sometimes disrupt how those value propositions are delivered to people. Beto’s expertise is continuously nurtured and advanced by IDEO’s global work in Medical Products, Food & Beverage, Packaged Goods, Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Furniture and Sporting Goods. His passions include traditional product design, business and innovation strategy, and futures projects that assess emerging trends.
Beto joined IDEO in 2004 with degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and experience in automotive R&D, architectural engineering, and sustainable development research. He regularly speaks on the topics of design, systems thinking, and sustainable development, and is frequently surprised and delighted by his 6-yr-old son, a nationally-ranked BMX bicycle racer.
