BBVA Wins The Banker's Innovation in Banking Technology Awards
The Banker
The Banker magazine announced that BBVA won an award in the category Innovation in Delivery Channel Technology. Though banking needs and ATM functions have since progressed beyond simple cash withdrawals, the fundamental design of the ATM has changed little in 40 years. Spain's BBVA Group worked with IDEO to identify an opportunity to revolutionise the ATM by creating a new design focusing on the needs of the user, rather than on the needs of the bank. PATTERNS Receives Two Webby Award Honors
IDEO’s PATTERNS site was named a Webby Award Honoree for Best Copy/Writing. Other honorees include Vanity Fair, NPR’s The Two-Way and BBC World Service.
The Bold Italic is also an official Webby Honoree for Best Magazine. Other honorees in this category include GQ, The New York Times’ T, and Mother Jones.

PNC Virtual Wallet Named Edison Finalist for ‘Best New Product’
Virtual Wallet, an IDEO project with PNC Financial Services Group, has been chosen as a 2010 Edison Best New Products Award finalist. The awards celebrate the persistence and excellence personified by Thomas Alva Edison and work to increase America’s drive in the realm of innovation, creativity and ingenuity throughout the global economy.

IDEO Wins Sustainable Suite Design Competition
The USGBC, American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and The Network of the Hospitality Industry (NEWH) together announced the winner of the first ever Sustainable Suite Design Competition. The competition showcased the best hospitality design strategies that boast environmental responsibility while enhancing the guest experience. Out of 65 professional design entries, IDEO and WATG took the top prize for their suite, Haptik. For more information, click here.

IDEO’s Intranet, The Tube, Wins Intranet Innovation Award
Intranet Innovation Awards
IDEO’s intranet, The Tube, has been honored with an Intranet Innovation Award. The IIAs are global awards that celebrate new ideas and innovative approaches to the enhancement and delivery of intranets. The goal is to find these ideas (whether large or small), and to share them with the wider community. Gold Awards are given across four different categories, each focusing on a specific aspect of intranets. IDEO Wins Four Spark Awards
Spark Awards
IDEO received a top Spark Award for PNC Bank’s Virtual Wallet, two Gold awards for Bedsider for The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy and Nurse Knowledge Exchange for Kaiser Permanente, and a Bronze award for IDEO’s Tube.
Spark is a competition created to support “multidisciplinary, multicultural, global, and aspirational design for all.” Read more about the award entries here.

IDEO Wins 2009 Open Architecture Challenge
Architecture for Humanity
Architecture for Humanity recently announced the winners of the 2009 Open Architecture Challenge. This year the competition was focused on classroom design. IDEO's design for Rumi Schools of Excellence was selected to win the Urban Classroom Upgrade category. More than 1,000 design teams from 65 countries registered for the competition. The winning designs were selected from more than 400 qualified entries, each rated on feasibility, sustainability, and innovation in the learning environment.

David Kelley Wins the Edison Achievement Award
In April, David Kelley won the Edison Achievement Award for Innovation from the Thomas Edison Papers at Rutgers University. He received the award for his “pioneering contributions to the design of breakthrough products, services, and experiences for consumers, as well as his development of an innovative culture that has broad impact.” Past recipients include Ted Turner and Martha Stewart. Spark! Awards
