We are very sad to let you know that Marc Tanner, who worked at Moggridge Associates and IDEO for 24 years, passed away on 15th August 2016 aged 58, after a battle with cancer.
Marc graduated from Northumbria University with a degree in Design for Industry in 1979. Bill Moggridge visited the degree show and impressed by his work, asked Marc to join him at Moggridge Associates in London. Marc’s creative work, his dedication and passion as well as warm and endearing personality contributed greatly to the growth of Moggridge Associates, and when Bill opened IDTwo in San Francisco, Marc transferred to that office soon after and spent more than a year there before returning to work in the London office.
Tim Brown, CEO IDEO remembers: “Marc was a great mentor to many designers who joined the company over the years, including me. His generosity, encouragement and professionalism helped make Moggridge Associates and IDEO a culture where young designers could thrive.”
His work in a variety of global markets and a diversity of industry sectors has earned him numerous design awards. He also mentored and encouraged new design students through his continued involvement with the University of Northumbria.
Marc joined IDC as Design Director in 2004 and continued to share his deep experience, knowledge and approach to design. He leaves a lasting impression and an important legacy behind. After 20 years together, Marc and Ann Rawles married in November 2015.
A service will be held for Marc at Hither Green Crematorium Lewisham, London on 5 September 2016 at 12.15pm.
