Content Specialist, OpenIDEO (Contract)

OpenIDEO is in search of a Content Specialist who will write and produce compelling social media and email content to serve our community of 150,000+ people around the world.

Since 2010, the OpenIDEO community has grown to engage hundreds of thousands of people in nearly 200 countries, tackling over 60 topics ranging from food waste to girl’s education to Ebola, and generating nearly 18,000 ideas for good.

Why is the role important to OpenIDEO?

Our Content Specialist makes a big impact by working closely with our Marketing Manager and with our passionate, active team to develop and execute creative social media and email content writing. Their skillset is critical to our business because it helps us to increase awareness, build connections, and communicate key information about OpenIDEO, our community of innovators and entrepreneurs, opportunities to engage with our initiatives, and social impact and human-centered design ecosystems as a whole.

Once you are here you will:

  • Social media writing & scheduling: Generate, edit, and share original daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action on OpenIDEO Challenges and important social and environmental issues.
  • Sourcing: Develop a targeted content marketing strategy for social media, and efficient practices for sourcing relevant, high-quality content.
  • Community management: Moderate user-generated content in line with the policy for each community, and respond to community across channels where appropriate.
  • Analytics: Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into plans for revising social media, content marketing, SEO and social advertising campaigns.
  • Support a global community: Support the impact of hundreds of thousands of innovators changing the world with human-centered design and a collaborative, fun team of IDEOers working to make it all possible.

Relevant Experience:

  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (in particular Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), their respective participants, and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios (please share links to profiles as examples)
  • Exceptional writing, editing and communication skills and demonstrated ability to learn and adopt the tone and writing style guide for different audiences
  • Experience running ad campaigns on social media channels and through email marketing services
  • Genuine enthusiasm and excitement to delve into social media and email strategy and execution
  • Demonstrated creative approaches to problem-solving and content development: exhibit the ability to jump from the creative side to analytical side of marketing
  • Interest in and passion for social enterprise, social impact, design and international experience highly preferred

Preferred qualifications:

  • Passion for data: solid experience with Google Analytics, Data Studio and other analytical tools a big plus
  • Skills in design (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, web design) highly preferred
  • Experience with CoSchedule and MailChimp a plus
  • Comfortable presenting work and strategy to team and clients

Contract details:

  • 6 months
  • Full-time: 40hours per week
  • July- December 2019 (with possibility to extend)
  • Should be able to work in-house at IDEO San Francisco
