Marketing Lead

In a nutshell:

IDEO Chicago is in search of a Marketing Lead who is eager to promote IDEO Chicago in service of growing our client partnerships and overall business.  While the emphasis is on attracting business from new clients, the Marketing Lead also plays an important role in helping Directors and other local leaders sustain existing client relationships.

As a Marketing Lead, we provide the opportunity for you to:

  • Build your creative confidence by learning and applying design thinking methods and a creative leadership mindset
  • Expand your marketing repertoire in new ways, balancing a mix of experiments and programs
  • Help shape intrapreneurial businesses within an award-winning design firm
  • Market IDEO’s unique brand attributes, services, and offerings to the right audiences
  • Design and implement strategy, events, and communications
  • Act as a liaison/creative translator between the business, clients, and designers
  • Collaborate with a global Marketing and Communication team that collectively manage IDEO’s brand, by marketing our products and portfolios, and supporting client relationships

Once here you will:

  • Work with our local leadership team to build a marketing plan that effectively aligns with our business and design goals
  • Work to pique the interest of new clients, including identifying and initiating conversations with people and organizations who align with our strategic goals
  • Develop messaging for our value proposition that resonates with target audiences and reflects our competitive environment
  • Write a marketing plan for IDEO Chicago that is locally focused and supports national/global efforts, including representing IDEO as a platform of creative products and services
  • Create and execute the Chicago marketing plan to deliver messages in a variety of ways, some of which may include:
    • Content-focused client events
    • Conferences and industry events
    • Selective press directly related to our key messages
  • Craft compelling stories/case studies about IDEO Chicago’s work, capabilities, thought leadership, culture and community for sharing across a variety of channels and mediums (online, publications, IDEO-hosted events, and other content-driven marketing initiatives)
  • Raise awareness for IDEO Chicago’s work by vetting, identifying and coordinating speaking opportunities for our leadership and members of the design community
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization to ensure brand consistency on all external-facing communications
  • Manage award submissions
  • Track and monitor marketing programs and initiatives
  • Support local designers wishing to participate in speaking and/or writing engagements as part of their professional development

  • Rise Science: Partnered with a sleep analytics start-up to develop a comprehensive sleep training system for professional athletes and scale the business
  • Procter and Gamble: Collaborated with a multinational company to connect staff members across locations and identify new areas for growth 

Relevant experience and mindset:

  • You have a minimum of 7-10 years marketing, corporate communications, and/or other related content creation experience
  • You have work experience within a B2B or B2C company, agency, start-up, and/or consultancy environment
  • BA/BS degree required
  • You have demonstrable marketing communications experience and have worked on the implementation of multi-channel marketing communications campaigns including direct marketing, digital campaigns, media, and more
  • You're a great storyteller with excellent writing skills, comfortable working across a range of mediums (online, print, and video) and are experienced in drafting marketing communications ie. case studies, blog posts, social media posts
  • You have excellent communications skills and are at your best,  working cross-functionally with partners in other functions.
  • You’re skilled at planning, organizing and hosting programs and events
  • You’re proactive and organized, with excellent project management skills, but comfortable with ambiguity and aren’t afraid when things get a little messy
  • You prioritize well and are able to manage multiple projects at once
  • You have experience working in digital media, photoshop, keynote, web based tools, and analytics
  • You have a passion to learn and grow as a marketer
  • You can be scrappy in weaving together resources and people distributed across disciplines and locations
