Palm V for Palm Computing
Email this case study to a friend
In updating the popular and industry-defining PalmPilot, Palm Computing wanted to reposition the next generation Palm V as a desirable accessory, using design to set it apart from its many imitators. They turned to IDEO for industrial design, mechanical engineering, and the development of the rechargeable battery for the two-and-a-half year collaboration.
IDEO crafted a sleek, elegant device, half the thickness of the original in an anodized aluminum housing. It now incorporates an internal lithium ion battery that recharges in the dock, and the side rails act as an open architecture to provide attachment for a variety of styluses, cases, and other add-ons.
