Message Magic Mirror BriteSmile has developed proprietary photochemistry which offers unequalled results in a professional one-hour teeth whitening treatment, which has made them the world leader in premium cosmetic tooth whitening. IDEO has enjoyed a ten-year role as BriteSmile’s development partners, and has developed three consecutive generations of the illumination equipment used in these treatments. Nearly eight out of ten American adults wish they had whiter teeth and wish they could see how a whiter, healthier smile could improve their overall appearance. Aware of this issue, IDEO and BriteSmile developed a new project to address this consumer need, the BriteSmile Magic Mirror. This easy-to-use device allows people contemplating the tooth-whitening treatment to experience an instant, realistic vision of their improved appearance. Magic Mirror uses digital image processing and facial recognition rules to locate and whiten a person’s teeth with real-time video imagery. It includes a new feature-extraction algorithm and a shade-changing program which realistically represents the actual results achievable by the BriteSmile process. All of this has been incorporated into a lightweight, portable device that can be used in a variety of locations in the dental environment, and which is affordable to private practices.
