Martin Bone
A man blessed with effortless goal-keeper’s hair. The 2007 Balinese Tiger Cuddling Champ. A haberdasher at heart. Boasting talents and interests both natural born and dubiously acquired, Martin has been designing and misaligning at IDEO since 1995, when he was discovered fashioning a baby bottle out of a mudflap in London’s West Ham. Since sealing his creaking rise to stardom with the iconic Bavarian Rat Village that flew off pet store shelves at the turn of the century, Martin has expanded his oeuvre to include designs that straddle the physical and digital worlds, from a documentary film on the migrant lard workers of East Sussex to the portable electric pipe organ. In reference to one of his slightly less recognized gadget designs, a fan once lovingly said it was “as ugly as a moose that’s been hit by a 4x4.”
