Networked Culture

Our new cultural and economic order places a higher premium on the experiential than on the material. However, misapplied analogies and mixed metaphors from the real world are giving rise to idiosyncratic interactions online that neither advance nor enrich the potential of new communal environments at the cutting edge of the experience economy.

As hierarchies are increasingly replaced by nodal relationships, the cultural and social associations that businesses and brands have formerly used to focus their audiences are radically changing. And evaporating.

Because global culture demands a richer understanding of physical and virtual networks, we believe that those who succeed now and in the future will have an integrated framework, where people are able to engage with complex systems, and learn to adapt to the notions of co-dependence and co-emergence.

At IDEO, we work with companies and other organizations to understand, shape and ultimately capitalize on their internal and external networks so they can address cultural, economic, social, and environmental challenges with greater agility.
