Johannes is an entrepreneurially-minded business designer and seasoned market researcher. At IDEO, he leads the Hybrid Insights capability — an expertise that pairs quantitative with qualitative research methods. Together with his team, Johannes develops novel research approaches to bring a human-centered lens to complex, large-scale systems to ultimately inform design and strategic decision-making.
In a world in which data is ubiquitous, his quest is to harness this resource to create meaningful value through design. His engagements often result in organizational change — bringing clarity and data literacy to client teams that suffer from either an overabundance or scarcity of data. His mantra is “Statistics don’t lie; interpretation is where things go wrong.”
Johannes brings a unique range of skills and experience to bear in his work at IDEO. Prior experience includes analyzing census data at the New York State Department of Economic Development, developing a new online research product at NPD Group, multi-media mix modeling at MindShare, and leveraging customer data to unlock growth opportunities as a management consultant at Marakon Associates.
An economist by training and a hands-on entrepreneur at heart, Johannes maintains several side ventures including luftbag, morgueFile, and koi.
