Position Summary:

IDEO is seeking a Business Development Manager to join our Shanghai office. This position is a core team member of the China business development team and will be given a high level of autonomy in decision making that complements the overall China BD approach. S/he will be a part of the IDEO global BD community and will manage regional and global accounts across China, and support the Asia Pacific region as needed. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Identify new business opportunities and lead business development efforts in China to translate these new opportunities into sales revenue, new projects and accounts.
• Provide advice/recommendations on project focus to potential clients.
• Prepare compelling proposals and presenting these to clients.
• Function as the Key Account Manager on key accounts in China.
• Act as the culture guide to project teams designing for Chinese clients and market.
• Collaborate with external partners, internal IDEO design teams, and industry practices.

Role requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in design, consulting or business. An advanced degree (MBA, preferably) is desired.
• 3+ years experience in business development, account management, project development or/and project management within consumer goods or/and management consulting industries.
• Minimum of 2 years experience developing/managing accounts in China, or/and intimate knowledge of doing business in China.
• Ability to relate to and engage with various levels within a client’s organization and have strong networking skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for relationships.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in Mandarin and English required.
• Fluency in computer business applications.
• Ability to travel around 50%.
