ORGANISATIONAL DESIGNER

Position Summary

IDEO’s London studio seeks a unique professional to help build our capability in Organisational Design.

We are looking for a design thinker who in a team environment can provide organisation solutions with a design slant. The candidate will not be afraid to challenge received wisdoms around existing people practices within organisations. Qualified candidates will have 3-4 years organisational design experience working in large business and corporate environments. They will have been involved in change programmes, either as a consultant or in-house, in multiple industries including Services and FMCG. Qualifications could be in the area of Change Management, Strategic Human Resource Management, or Organisational Development/Psychology but importantly, this should be combined with a design or engineering degree/background. Please be aware that IDEO works internationally and this role might involve 30% travel.

As an Organisational Designer at IDEO you should be able to employ design skills along with team and communications skills to provide great value for our clients.

We work as multi-disciplinary teams on projects and Organisational Design will feature as one element of the work with our clients. At IDEO we utilise our Organisation Design function to support innovation within our clients’ workplace – whether this is to ready the organisation to deliver new products or services to market, designing a completely new organisation to support brands, products or services or to support a change management programme to embed design thinking.

Design Skills • Think creatively to generate designs for solutions to address strategic and organisational issues with the design/ implementation teams, coaching them on the management of the people side of implementation planning • Navigate client organisations to identify key decision makers and help the team plan for successful implementation of projects, including planning communications and change management activity • Work with the design teams to ensure that the people aspects of design and implementation planning are understood and managed effectively • Analyse and understand the client organisation’s readiness for change and how it impacts upon the project and IDEO • Apply skills and experience relating to the people side of work (e.g. Organisational Design, Training & Development, Organisational Psychology, Change Management, Organisation Development and HR) to design team projects, particularly to shape implementation planning

Team and Communications Skills • Communicate effectively in writing and in person • Manage client expectations of the project content as it evolves • Scope and manage project work tasks, timelines and budgets. • Understand business propositions and multiple industries • Inspire, facilitate and coach design teams to generate innovative propositions for our clients • Quickly understand a range of Client Organisations and their business and organisational challenges • Listen empathically to both client and creative teams needs • Manage the non-hierarchical structure of IDEO with the often hierarchical structure of client organisations • Network both externally with clients and internally within IDEO • Identify risks and opportunities and communicate their implications clearly to the client and project team, identifying occasions when further specialist input might be needed to support the project • Support business development activities • Work effectively in highly creative, multidisciplinary teams and engage openly with the designers and their work • Manage project milestones and deliverables with the project teams
