Position Summary
You’re not a typical digital designer. And we’re not a typical digital design shop. In fact, IDEO isn’t a digital design shop at all—and that’s what makes things interesting. Working here means you’ll get to tackle more of the design process, and become intimately involved in research and client relationships. We need people with experience in time-based media, who can design for screen, interactive, and web. If you’re a creative thinker with a passion for pixels, have a knack for crafting compelling stories, possess the technical depth to acknowledge constraints, but thrive on experimentation, we should talk.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Passion for visual design: You know the difference between “good” and “great” and are able to work within teams to deliver excellent design. (Not only can you identify and evangelize best practices, but you’re able to push boundaries and explore new territory.)
- Team skills: You work best in a participatory, team-based environment. You inspire teams through collaboration as well as direction, vision, and planning of visual deliverables.
- Prototyping skills: You understand that success come sooner with trial and error. You can prototype at different levels of fidelity.
- Communication skills: You have strong verbal, written, and visual presentation skills. You understand the value of design and brand within a business context.
- Consulting chops: Can you present like a pro and communicate your creative voice in a business setting? You should feel comfortable throughout all phases of a project, from translating verbal ideas into visual concepts, through design development and refinement, to creating production-ready artwork.
Additional Skills Required
Tools: Graphic Design tools across a variety of media (print, motion, web) including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and AfterEffects. (Bonus points for Flash or Director.)
Education: BA in Graphic Design, New Media, or professional equivalent
If you’re still with us, we’d love to hear from you. Tell us a little bit about yourself, and of course send us a link to your work (resume, portfolio). For extra credit, send us a sample* of something that’s good, and send us a sample of something that’s great.
*Not something you created, and no explanation needed.
